Who is Seraphim of Sarov?

Seraphim of Sarov · 约1825-1833

Seraphim of Sarov (c. 1754 or 1759 – January 14, 1833), born Prokhor Moshnin, is one of the most venerated saints in Russian Orthodox Christianity. He entered the Sarov Monastery at age 19 and spent approximately 25 years in solitary ascetic life deep in the forest, renowned for his extreme asceticism and profound spiritual experiences.

Seraphim's central teaching was the 'acquisition of the Holy Spirit,' emphasizing that the true purpose of Christian life is to acquire the grace of the Holy Spirit. In his later years, he opened his hermitage to visitors, offering spiritual guidance with compassion and insight. He was said to have demonstrated the gift of prophecy and miraculous healing on numerous occasions. His peaceful coexistence with a wild bear became one of the most iconic images in Russian spiritual tradition.

Seraphim left prophecies about Russia's future destiny, including revolutionary catastrophe, persecution of faith, the coming of the Antichrist, and Russia's ultimate spiritual resurrection. He was canonized in 1903 at the insistence of Tsar Nicholas II. This site compiles his most widely circulated prophecies and provides historical verification for those whose timelines have passed.
